ArtPrize (Grand Rapids, MI)was designed as a very different art competition, the goal is for the general public and artists to collide, exchange ideas and come away changed.

2010 in brief

September 22 - October 10

• $449,000 prize ($250,000 to 1st place)
• Top 10 entries receive a prize
• Artists can submit one entry
• Property in downtown Grand Rapids can be a venue
• Venues choose the artists they exhibit
• Anyone attending the event can vote
• Winner is determined by public vote

… SATORI CIRCUS (longest lasting Detroit performance artist) will be performing for the opening in a non-stop performance art piece titled, SONGLINES. This endurance performance will last for 5 days. The idea is for SC to go out on the streets, rain or shine, and perform around the visitors, artists and locals of Grand Rapids telling stories without words but with actions/movements, sound and props, solo or by integrating himself into the crowd…all through much of the art form of improvisation. The idea is to get up and go to work (on the streets performing – 7.5hrs.); get off from work and roam and interface with the people, wherever they are; go back to venue to perform and sleep as ‘live’ art in the venue’s display window’s. Get up the following day, to do it again; for five days; ending on Sunday the 26^th after the work day is done. Although the event begins on September 22^nd and goes to October 10^th, SC will be performing from the 22^nd to the 26^th. Look for SC!

Songlines is described by Wikipedia as: “…also called Dreamingtracks byIndigenous Australians within theanimist indigenous belief system, are paths across the land (or, sometimes the sky^[1]) which mark the route followed by a localised 'creator-spirit' during theDreaming. The paths of the songlines are recorded in traditional songs, stories, dance, and painting.”
