The Temple Within

As we watch the falling leaves all around us, we feel winter upon us. We see in our outside world, death and decline. This mimics our inner world of saying goodbye to the old and outmoded areas of our life that no longer serve us. Have you noticed that during this time of year, people’s moods seem to be more somber? We are all instinctively preparing to pull our energies inward to find our “inner flame”, or “The Temple Within”. Just like nature, we intuitively know deep inside on a spiritual level, that this is what’s needed for our own growth and renewal.

Many people in our society seem to hold the belief that pulling inward is not a good thing. We are all expected to be outgoing and cheerful with others, or maybe people will think there is something wrong with us? How many folks do you know that are turning to anti-depressants instead of turning inward? We were not given a road map at birth on how to deal with depression or how to get life’s answers from inside ourself. Inside ourself?? Funny notion....isn’t it? Maybe we don’t always need someone or something in the material world to satisfy our deepest longing? We have been so trained to always look for our happiness outside of ourselves.

This is the trance that we can get caught up in everyday life that keeps us all chasing after happiness outside of ourself. It only leaves the hungry ghost inside of us, still empty. Have you ever noticed that after getting something you wanted in life, you feel satiated, but only for a little while? We are not satiated by the item or person or whatever we got, but rather, the satiated feeling comes from the contentment of having the mind quieted for a brief moment before it starts in again with the next want. Our happiness will once again be hinged upon another expectation or need from outside of us. Have you ever noticed, to the mind it is never quite perfect? Thus, we begin to see upon waking up that we will never fill the void, or the hungry ghost with toys of the material world, or of approval from others.

With the world waking up so rapidly, we need to step into “high gear” and reignite our “inner flame” to find our “Temple Within”.

Here are some simple steps to finding “The Temple Within” everyday.

1. When you first wake up in the morning and you’re still laying in bed, Ask your higher self to clear your body and mind with a brilliant white light, so that you can handle anything and everything that comes your way today. When done, make the affirmation that you are empowered by everything. (Master Shaman from Sedona, AZ taught me that affirmation, and it really does work!)

2. Set up an altar and a comfy place to sit when you get out of bed. Have a stop watch or alarm nearby to keep track of time and a candle with matches or lighter. (Keep the matches or lighter hidden if you have young children!) After you have gotten out
of bed and have emptied your bladder, sit down in this altar or sacred space you have created for yourself. This is the beginning point and entrance to “The Temple Within”.

3.  Light the candle and with eyes open or shut spend a few moments focusing on your breath. Deliberately pulling all of your focus inward to your breath, while rooting yourself into the earth. Dismiss any thoughts that come into your mind and just tell each thought, “not now”. You can put a mental sticky note on the left side of your awareness to be reminded later of the thought. I find that most important thoughts will be brought back into the mind after meditation.

4.  Ask that your eternal flame shine brightly so that you feel the healthy, warm, glow inside of you, and that it keep you cheerful and healthy throughout the winter.

5.  Sit quietly as you feel this internal flame in the center of your being, alive and bright.

Contemplate during this time about what it is it that is always here while things in the material world come and go? Ask yourself what is here always, no matter what?

Once you have answered the question, the answer may come to us in different forms, but, essentially, you have just answered the question of life. You have found the Source of all things from which everything comes and goes from. You have found the true peace and inner sanctity that keeps the temple flame glowing.....you have just found yourself.

Welcome Home. You have now entered “The Temple Within”

6. Meditate and bask in the bliss of having found the Eternal, of having remembered your Natural state of being. You now clearly see that most everything here in this reality that we hold on to is transient, or temporary. You feel a sense of renewed peacefulness that feels very familiar, in some ancient way. After 15 minutes has passed, your stop watch or alarm will signal. You can put out the candle, take 3 deep breaths, get up slowly and continue with your day.
With the rise of The Divine Feminine that we see happening within every man and woman on the planet, we can now reflect on these words:

“Listen to the words of the Great Mothe, who of old was called Artemis-Astarte-Demeter-Melusine-Aphrodite-Cerridwen-Diana-Arianrhod-Brigid- Hecate-Isis, and by many of names....

I am the beauty of the green earth and the white moon, and the mysteries of the waters. From Me all things proceed and unto Me they must return. Let my worship be in the heart that rejoices, for all acts of love and pleasure are My rituals. Let there be beauty and strength, power and compassion, mirth and reverence within you. And you who seek to know Me, know that your seeking and yearning will avail you not, unless you know the Mystery; If that which you seek, you find not within yourself, you will never find it without. For behold:

I have been with you from the beginning, and I am that which is attained at the end of desire.”
