Embracing Change

Fall is approaching and will grace us with all of her glorious colors, which represent change. Not only does it represent a change of the season, but a change for us mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Even plants prepare for the change of seasons. As they grow they begin to shed older leaves and form new ones. Change is a natural process for nature and it is the only thing in life we can be certain about.

However, unlike nature we human beings deny and resist change. We forget that we are one with the universal rhythm of nature. On a daily basis we are constantly exchanging energy and information with the environment, however, we perceive ourselves as separate from the environment. When our internal rhythm is in harmony with the environment we experience a sense of well-being. When our internal rhythm is not synchronistic with the environment we feel out of sync, we are distressed and unhappy. This is the universes’ way of telling us something must change. Change challenges us to grow. If we resist change it returns, sometimes with a vengeance.

As human beings, we seek happiness and avoid the feelings of pain at all cost. We will be dishonest with family members or friends, use substances that are harmful to our body, or over indulge with food. Even when we know it is imperative to break certain habits or make choices that are supportive we resist the change. It is our perspective and fear of change that keeps us in our current suffering, and yet we don’t acknowledge it. When we aren’t in the flow of life we stagnate, which hinders our evolutionary growth. Our spiritual growth is a necessary change that will take place no matter how much we resist this change.

Personally for me, when things are changing in my life I stay focused. I am aware of my feelings and remain in the moment with a positive attitude. I know that at any moment a shift in perception can occur which will create my desired circumstance. I remain positive and focused on an outcome that is in my best interest and which support my needs. I refuse to entertain any thoughts that will deter me from my happiness and well-being. I integrate my intellect and heart in making choices, so whatever the change is, it will benefit me. Life is all about how you perceive it. Do you perceive it with fear or love? I truly know that change in my life is good and I cultivate from there.

As we look around our immediate community we see families, friends, and neighbors lose their jobs, homes, and businesses. There is change all around us. This did not happen over night, it was a gradual change that hit hard. We can learn from this change and create a solid foundation of community and rise above it, or not. Change can be devastating, but there is always a reason. Look beyond the external circumstances and go within to draw on your inner strength. I know I am asking a lot, but I also know from personal experience that it works.

In Marianne Williamson’s book, "The Gift of Change", we connect with who we really are and realize that we are capable of change and miracles. It is our fear-based thoughts that keep us bound where we are. Change, any type of change, mental, or physical comes from within. So, many of us fear the thought of looking at ourselves from a deeper perspective because we fear failure, rejection, and abandonment. It is not our circumstance that makes us who we are, it is our actions.

In order to master change and be in charge of our destiny we must not fear change but embrace it. The "gift of change" is an individual choice. We can benefit from it or we can be victimized by it. No one can escape change. We live in a dynamic ever-changing world. The question we want to ask ourselves is, "Are we in harmony with the rhythm of life, so we can be strong within as we create our reality?" Or are we resisting change and depleting our life force, falling victim to depression, addictions or dis-ease?

Our personal power gives us the support and strength to be flexible and change when needed. Personal power is our will; which is the guiding force of a healthy personality. When you develop the attitude of "I can do anything", change will not deter you from your outcome. Change will be the catalyst that transforms your life into everyday magic, miracles if you will. When you look outside your window and see the changes in nature that surround you, many of which we don’t understand, is that not the miracle of life? This, my friend, is available to all of us.
